Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you have to appear lame. Unable to post pictures from hot restaurants, exclusive parties, and exotic travel destinations, people have found a way to still appear cool and hopefully inspire jealousy in followers.
“I saw that online challenge about putting a checkmark next to the places you’ve been?” said Graham Tory, a librarian isolating in Edmonton. “So I thought, this is a great way to make it look like I’m playing a game while reminding people that I’d be out adventuring if I wasn’t stuck at home.”
It’s a relief to many that they can spend the day on the couch in pajamas while continuing to project an enviable persona.
“At least the pressure to get into a big ticket concert or be the first person to post about rainbow bagels has eased,” said Jagmeet Shan. “Now I can just rest on my laurels. I can Throwback Thursday and Flashback Friday to all the impressive stuff I’ve already posted about.”
While some find comfort in a simple cup of coffee or the chance to read a book during the coronavirus outbreak, these banal activities aren’t the kind of shares that rack up likes and comments.
“If anyone can do it, I don’t post about it,” said Tory. “If my updates don’t make someone else feel like a loser, what’s the point?”
