A senior employee at Shared Services Canada has revealed that of all public servants who have their email hosted by SSC, only a fraction bothered to open the farewell message from outgoing Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

“Eighty-nine percent of recipients deleted the message upon receipt, sending it to their trash folder unopened,” the individual revealed. “The remaining 11 percent did open it, but it cannot be verified whether they actually read it or not, or read it in its entirety.”

Pressed for a theory explaining this behaviour, the employee speculated that Mr. Harper’s feelings about the public service were already made well known during his 9 years in office.
